OKay, i dont know how familiar you all are with colleges across the country but the college across the street from my high school,SRU(Slippery Rock University) started about a year or two ago with Harry Potter science classes. The first attempt brought in 90 ppl! And now as of a few weeks ago elementary and middle schools are beginning to do it too. I think it is a cool idea, what do you all think? Good or Bad?

well they "experiment" with "magic" if that makes sense. They do experiments to explain simple things like why things float and invisibility cloaks and things like that. What yhey do is each term/nine weeks/sesmester whatever you want to call it, they use go through one book, though they only use the first four as there are only four terms. and they study that book for the term and do "experiments" and try "explore" the "magical" world

:\ I wouldn't go if I had the chance.. I like the magical-ness of magic. I wouldn't want science to ruin it..

haha i agree with trishy...science would ruin it...but i also agree with lauren..i would love to attend one just to see what it was like......i called a friend who just re-read the article and she said they are also "explaning" the potions that are used in the books and how they are illusions and couldnt possibly happen...though that would kinda ruin it for me...

haha yeah i know......but its kind of weird and neat at the same time.....though i would love to see them try to prove something(anything) wrong and find out that it cant be proven wrong and that there is such a thing as magic lol though thats going a little too far too lol

I choose "what."
A college is offering this? I could see elementary or even a high school doing that, but not a college. Well, really, the thing is if they can find a teacher, they can teach the subject, basically. That's how the Middle Earth languages class, the Philosophy of the Simpsons, and learn-by-experience sex ed classes are born. (okay, that last one is a semi-joke. I remember actually reading about such a class, or maybe it was a club, but it was of course discontinued.)

haha no lauren you dont sound bipolar lol and it is the HP lovers that take the classes...but why they would want to disprove the books is beyond me....though i must admitt that i would attend at least on class just to see what was going on....

Actually the college I went to would have a class on Harry Potter. They already have Disney, mupets, and other pop culture classes.

An interesting idea for a class, but I don't think I'd take it. Like Trish, I like the mystique of the magic-ness. I'd more likely take the Psychology of Simpsons class at UC Berkeley than the HP science class. Great idea though. It really encourages people to think and ponder the books some more.
